Following a successful Sutcliffe & Co Worcester City Runs launch event with the wonderful Steve Cram and Events of the North, the Prime Mix ladies got so over excited they decided to sign up to run in the 10K circuit.
Training Plan
Although Jo, Kezia, Sophie and Julia are runners of some description – they still need to build up to the Sutcliffe & Co Worcester City Runs 10K. Jo and Kezia are slightly out of practice so have decided to train by using the Couch to 5K app, featuring none other than the motivating words of Steve Cram.
Sophie and Julia are slightly further into their running journey, so are choosing to independently train over the next few months.
Thankfully we’ve had some lovely sunny days to get out and about. Jo and Kezia have enjoyed running at lunchtime together, we have decided that having a running buddy is helpful and more motivating. On the Couch to 5K app, you can add a running buddy, which is a great idea for when you are training remotely from your team.
Jo has another running partner. Winnie will be joining her on a few runs, which will significantly boost the average pace! Look out for Run with Winnie on our socials.
Choosing a Charity
After the four of us had decided to sign up we wanted to find a charity that we could work with to help raise their profile through our participation in the run and also raise some funds for them. Our criteria were a Worcestershire-based charity, one that involved fitness for children and/or adults and had similar values to us. It didn’t take us long to find PAL Fitness Education.
PAL aims to support people who experience disadvantage, supporting children and families from low-income backgrounds and disabled people, of all ages.
What We Will Be Doing
We had a lovely morning coffee with Kieran and Sue from PAL, who told us lots about why the charity was set up and the work they do for local children and families. They also have some fantastic plans for the future.
Kieren invited us to visit and have a go on their bikes – a bit of additional training for us! We are looking forward to getting the team together to see for ourselves the great work the team at PAL do.
The charity has lots of things that we can raise money for so we will be talking to them about priorities before we decide on where the money we raise will be used.
But what about Christina? I hear you ask. She has one of the most important jobs – Chief Refresher. Christina will be on hand with refreshments and plenty of encouragement for the team.
What We Would Like To Get Out Of This Run?
All of us are keen to get back into running. It is free, gets you out in the fresh air and is great for the mind and soul. Just a couple of weeks in and we are all talking about the difference that our initial training has made to us.
Through sharing our training journeys, we would like to encourage more people who have previously enjoyed running to get back into it.
For PAL, we would like to raise the awareness within Worcester of this important charity and what they can offer to schools, individuals and families. Raising some funds to help them to purchase equipment or to offer places on their activity days is also on our agenda.
