Running a half-marathon for my (nearly) half-century.

20th May 2026
Jo Morgan running a half-marathon for her (nearly) half-century.

Next year I turn 50, and as I approach the end of my forties, I started to reflect on things that I have done and those that I continue to avoid. One of which was running further than 10K – I mean, this distance is pretty far anyway and having completed that milestone last September, I didn’t feel the need to repeat the experience.

Anyhow, at the start of this year, I followed Sara Cox’s incredible Northern Marathon Challenge in support of Children in Need. Watching her dig deep, push through the tough moments, and keep going, even when it became incredibly challenging, sparked a thought:

If she can do it at this stage of her life… why can’t I?

And just like that, the trainers were back on and I started to run again. A few weeks later and I seemed to have agreed to sign up to the Worcester City Runs half-marathon for The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust. I still can’t quite remember how this escalated, but here I am.

 Why this Matters.

The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust reached its own milestone this year as they mark 10 years since the charity began. The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust doesn’t just fund research, they support families through the unimaginable, offering practical and emotional help when it’s needed most through their Family Support service.

 From 5K to 13.1 Miles

Back in November 2016, I completed Couch to 5K in support of the then-fledgling Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust. Fast forward to nearly 10 years on and I will be going just a little bit further to do the same, 13.1 to be exact. The distance might have changed, but the motivation hasn’t.

To prepare, I’m following a structured training programme with the help of Runna and tracking progress through Strava. Along the way, I have already completed my first 10K this year at the Worcester 10K, and I plan to do the Droitwich Quarter Marathon in June as part of this journey.

At Prime Mix Marketing, we talk a lot about being vivacious, lively, and community-mindedThis challenge feels like a very real way of bringing those values to life.

As a team, we actively support local charities and community initiatives, and this year we’ve encouraged everyone to take on a personal challenge for a cause they care about with the full support of the business behind them. This just happens to be mine.

The Challenge Ahead

🏃Event: Worcester City Runs Half-Marathon

📏Distance: 13.1 miles

📅Date: September 2026

❤️Charity: Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust

My fundraising goal is £250 but more importantly, my personal goal is simple: To make it to the finish line… ideally without looking too bedraggled!!

It’s going to be tough but it’s nothing compared to what the families that need the support of Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust face every day. That’s why it’s worth every mile to me.

If you’re able to support, every donation, no matter what the size, will make a difference.

If you can’t donate, sharing this page or cheering me on along the way would mean just as much.
