According to the 2021 Social Trends Survey (conducted by Hootsuite), social media resulted in 73% of marketers acquiring new customers. This is an amazing outcome for the businesses that chose to invest in their socials last year.
The survey was based on 11,189 marketers, supplemented by interviews with dozens of industry specialists, as well as published reports and data from Deloitte, Edelman, eMarketer, Forrester, GlobalWebIndex, The CMO Survey, and others.
For most marketers, their top goal is to acquire new customers and therefore social media should be a key priority moving forward. For 2021, the top 3 outcomes for organisations are:
– Increased acquisition of new customers
– Increased brand awareness
– Drive conversions (leads, purchases, product enquiries)
The platforms to invest in
The survey found that more than half of all businesses are planning to increase their Instagram budget, and almost half are planning to do the same for Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn.
Instagram added the greatest number of new users between July and September 2020 and marketers are keen to ensure that Instagram is a prime focus for their social media activity in 2021.
For those not investing in paid activity for social, then Twitter and Pinterest remain the most effective channels.
There are huge opportunities for brands who take their time to work on the creative and how they will fit into the social conversation. While it does require time and thought, the importance simply cannot be overstated.
The missed audience
Long have stereotypes and ageism been underestimated and left marketers ignoring a large increasingly digital savvy demographic, the baby boomers.
